Today the Ikea Leko concept has been finally revealed. To everyone’s big disappointment, Leko is not a car at all. Actually it’s not even a proper car-sharing service, but barely a website where people can try to hitch a ride to a Ikea from a fellwo driver.

Well, at least you have to salute Ikea for an extremely successful viral marketing campaign. Too bad that the actual product was such a disappointment.

Ikea’s press release tells about collaboriation with WWF, hints new concepts for the 1st of April

As the official release of Ikea Leko get’s closer and closer (only 14 hours from now), We decided to round up the information that there is already available about the Ikea Leko:

We have managed to get translations about the main points mentioned on the french teaser site. The most interestin facts mentioned on the video are:

  • The concept is more responsible than any other car on the market
  • Ikea Leko will allow owners to spend less on gasoline
  • Leko will be adaptable to the transport need of the customer
  • Leko has been realized in collaboration with other companies

Ikea and the french branch of the World Wildlife fund (WWF) have also given out a press release, stating that the first concept related to their joint effort will be published on the 1st of April, on on the Sustainability week. Ikea Leko coming on the 1st of April?

Is this just a joke or the real thing? The fact that the Ikea Leko will be revealed on the 1st of April (April fools day) might arouse the sceptics, but you’ll never know…

Some Speculate that the Leko is in fact an entirely new, own car model manufactured and sold by Ikea. Some, a bit more conservative sources say, that Leko will be a new car-sharing concept that Ikea will introduce, beginning from France.

Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. As I already mentioned, the revealing will take place on the 1st of April. The teaser website can meanwhile be found from here. (in french, that is)
